Melvin Mark wins first U.S. Green Globe rating

Melvin Mark Cos. has earned the first Green Globes designation awarded in the nation for sustainable initiatives in an existing building. The Green Building Initiative on July 2 presented its Green Globes plaque to Melvin Mark for Columbia Square, a 313,000-square-foot Class A office building at 111 S.W. Columbia St. in downtown Portland. Green Globes debuted in Portland two years ago. The green rating system for buildings originated in Canada and is marketed locally as an affordable alternative to the popular U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program. www.portland.bizjournals.com
